This is my wife. She is the best.
Caroline and I have known one other since before we were born. Our families have been friends forever. We were the first two girls of the second round of Ducaniveaux Princesses. I was first and she came about 9 months later.
We had a tough time as kids. I was bossy and she was picky. We had very different ways of doing things and we butted heads a lot. As we grew, we had even less in common. She went to an all girl private school in upstate New York. She was really involved in her school and did great academically. I was in public school, and lets just say I was lucky I was smart. I was far more concerned with my social life, being a smart ass, and figuring out how to break the rules and get away with it.
We went quite a few years without speaking to one another. Slowly but surely we realized that we did in fact love one another, we just lived across the country and were very different. She spent quite a few years away from the west coast. In 2010 she and I ended up on the phone, and we talked for hours. She told me she wanted to come out and help with the Moisture Festival. She ended up stage-managing both the Vashon and Georgetown shows, not an easy task.
It was during this time that we really fell in love. It was immediate. It was like a light switch turned on. She got out here and we all of a sudden just understood one another. Somewhere along the way we got engaged, I don’t even remember the moment, it was just so natural. We have some funny 3 am ceremony at the Country Fair, surrounded by our people.
Between March and September 2010, we went to Moisture Fest, Boom Fest, The Oregon Country Fair, and Burning Man and then met up in London. We were inseparable. I feel so lucky that we got this summer together. We have only seen one another once, maybe twice since.
We still talk and check in all the time. She is my rock. I know that I could call her at anytime. We have been through some of our deepest moments together, the highs and the lows. Family matters, our life loves, our aspirations and disappointments. She is one of the most generous and thoughtful humans I have ever met. I am so grateful for her in my life.
When we met up in London it was because she got accepted to get her masters at London School Of Economics. While there, she got an internship at Parliament. She is now back in the states living in Washington DC working with the Democratic National Committee on the Obama Campaign. These are only some of her most recent accomplishments; she has lists of them miles long. She is really fancy and I admire her so much, I am such a proud wife.
While I am so happy for her, I know this means we will probably not get many chances to see each other for god knows how long. We both live very full lives. She is so supportive of everything I do, she encourages me every step of the way. I promised her that if I ever make it, I will buy her the best shoe collection any one has seen. She is the angel of the two of us. Always the designated driver and yet always down to party till the very end. I could go on forever. I love you wife. I don’t know what I would do without you.
